Many Wells, One River of Wisdom:
Mindfulness and Perennial Wisdom in Everyday Life
with Dr. Gordon Peerman
Friday, August 25 from 6 - 9 p.m.
Saturday, August 26 from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Whether we call it prayer, meditation, gardening, or hiking in the woods, many of us search for ways to be in touch with a less fearful, more tranquil openness to the Divine, to those we love, and to the world around us. We find ourselves doing this in the midst of hurried lives and complicated times. This search is one we share with many in other spiritual traditions.
In August, the Spiritual Formation Team is pleased to welcome Dr. Gordon Peerman to lead a workshop where he will share his knowledge of this common journey. Dr. Peerman is a former West End member and Episcopal priest who draws from a deep well of experience in a number of faith practices. He will help us develop an understanding of the foundations of mindfulness and begin a practice that will foster peace and serenity in our lives. This workshop is appropriate for someone new to mindfulness practices, but will present these concepts in a manner that will also appeal to those who may have attended last year’s workshop.
As Dr. Peerman explains about this year’s workshop: “Mindfulness, or ‘heartfulness’ as contemporary meditation teachers call it, is a tributary of the great river of Loving Awareness. This one river of Loving Awareness flows into many different wells of human spiritual expression. The well of Christian wisdom has called heartful attentiveness ‘practicing the Presence of God.’ Please join us in drinking from some of the many wells that tap into the refreshing and living waters of Loving Awareness.”
Mark your calendars now for this wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth. The workshop will begin on Friday, August 25 from 6 - 9 p.m. and will continue on Saturday morning, August 26 from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Dinner will be provided on Friday night and a light breakfast on Saturday morning. We hope you will join us.
