The Struggle is Real

Speakers:Stacey Harwell-Dye
Topics:Children's moment, Holy communion, Sermon, Sunday service

Continuing our sermon series from Genesis titled, “Family Matters,” today’s reading is the familiar story of Jacob’s wrestling.  His life to this point has been filled with strife, and when he goes to sleep this particular night, we can recall times when we, too, have been awake at night with so many issues running through our minds.  He prays before trying to sleep.  Knowing Jacob’s faults, God still chooses Jacob as the ancestor of Israel.  Even if it upsets us that God would choose such a bad person, this story shows God’s acceptance of those who wrestle, and our wrestling with this story and with issues in our own time will not separate us from God.   (NOTE: We usually post the 11 o’clock service, but with the COVID-19 threat we are having only the 8:45 service today, and that is the service we are posting.  NOTE:  Although the video begins with the Children’s Moment, once it starts you can scroll back to the beginning of the service if you want.  The video of the entire service is available to watch.)
